Extraction

Extraction

Leaf Therapeutics™ CBD is obtained through Supercritical CO2 extraction. This is the “Gold Standard” extraction method for nutritional supplements. The process is clean and green, and creates safe, healthy extracts. When Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is put under the extreme pressure of 1071 PSI, and is heated to 86 degrees F, it becomes a supercritical fluid, a state where the CO2 begins to have the properties of both a liquid and a gas. This fluid is an ideal solvent, capable of dissolving key constituents of botanical material. What results is a very specific fraction of the starting botanical material. CO2 extraction is pure, and free from residual solvent chemicals. Other extraction methods may use water, alcohol, hexane, butane, or other petroleum based solvents to isolate the desired botanical fraction.

Phytocannabinoids

Phytocannabinoids

Cannabinoids are a class of chemical compounds found naturally occurring in cannabis plants. To date, science has uncovered over 100 cannabinoids and their benefits continue to be studied.  Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most notable phytocannabinoid due to its extensive research on supporting the body’s endocannabinoid system. Clinical trials with CBD have demonstrated improvements from issues including: anxiety, cognition, pain associated with exercise, and movement disorders.

Endocannabinoid System

Endocannabinoid System

The human body contains a specialized system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is involved in regulating a variety of functions including sleep, appetite, pain and immune system response. The body produces endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in your nervous system.  CBD, plant sourced endocannabinoid, may help reduce chronic pain by impacting endocannabinoid receptor activity, reducing inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters.
